Introduction to Yoga, 4 April 2017

Our one off introductory sessions are offered approximately once a month and are specifically designed with the new student in mind. 

If you are interested in trying yoga but don't really know what it's all about, this is the session for you.

As we do not offer specific 'beginners' classes, we ask all students new to yoga, to attend an Introduction to Yoga session initially. The teacher will then signpost you to the regular class which is most appropriate to you.

Join us for an informative session which will cover some of the basics and fundamentals of yoga. Watch, join in and ask questions. Perfect for beginners to yoga or those returning to yoga after a long break.

Let the fire of this time of year inspire the continuous rebirth for the ageless being that lives within you. 

Elena says...'The fire element is possibly my favourite element as I have a lot of it.  I love to help, serve and support others.  I love the summer and feel rejuvenated and more creative during this warm period but is this attraction too much?

Over the past 20 years I have noticed so many yoga practitioners who have a strongly developed fire element.  The fire element is associated with four organs and muscle groups of the body which include the heart (subscapularis), small intestines (quadriceps and abdominal muscles), heart protector/ constrictor (Gluteus medius, adductors, piriformis and gluteus maximus) and the triple heater (Sartorius, teres minor, Gracilis, Soleus and Gastrocnemius).  A balanced, stable, fire element brings us to truly access our limitless true potential, inner strength and inner power, leading to endless possibilities and to a clear and still mind.  Our heart becomes softer, freer and more spacious from within and it opens so that we can communicate our feelings and express our creativity courageously.'

The problem:

When our energetic pathways are blocked and constricted, we experience physical, physiological and emotional upset and challenges.

The solution:

As soon as we start to liberate these energetic currents, prana – the universal life force which is in our cells, moves freely within us.  This allows softness and space, alignment and harmony, stability and lightness and ultimately happiness to our being, bringing us organically integration between gravity and levity, the sun and moon, wind and sky, heaven and earth. 

Back to Back Yoga will activate and balance the body’s energetic pathways, releasing blocked energy, reconnecting us with life.  You will learn to understand the different types of blockages in the main parts of your body including lack of energy and space around the main organs.

Yoga as Self Compassion with Monica Voss - Tuesday 6 June 2017

We all encounter frustrations, experience loss, make mistakes, battle limitations, and fall short of our ideals at times, both in a yoga setting and certainly outside of it.

How can we learn to go with the body, not against it and practice yoga and meditation with enjoyment, love and kindness, awareness and self-compassion?

Join Monica in an exploration of relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, generous movement and posture, all supporting the development of increased happiness in any life circumstance.

 

Monica Voss has practised and taught yoga for over 40 years, having studied with Esther Myers, Vanda Scaravelli and Mary Stewart. She co-owns and directs Esther Myers Yoga Studio in Toronto, Canada, and teaches workshops, retreats and teacher training internationally. Monica has offered annual workshops in the UK since 1989.

Sounding and Language with Monica Voss, Wednesday 7 June 2017

Teachers, those in training and experienced, interested students are welcome to join Monica for this event which will comprise of 2 short (2hrs each) workshops. 

SOUNDING
Making sounds, whether deliberate or spontaneous, is a strategy of the
body/brain/mind uses to release stress and restore energy by breathing. In this workshop, we will practice a variety of structured, non-sectarian and unstructured natural sound-making to rediscover the voice as a tool for relaxation,empowerment and self-expression.

REFRESHING YOUR LANGUAGE

Words are powerful, stimulating and evocative, but can also limit and frustrate at times. As teachers, we affect our students' practice profoundly by our choice of vocabulary. This workshop will help develop your ability to use language creatively to encourage positive reflection and enhance the very personal process of learning about the body
