Yoga as Self Compassion with Monica Voss - Tuesday 6 June 2017

We all encounter frustrations, experience loss, make mistakes, battle limitations, and fall short of our ideals at times, both in a yoga setting and certainly outside of it.

How can we learn to go with the body, not against it and practice yoga and meditation with enjoyment, love and kindness, awareness and self-compassion?

Join Monica in an exploration of relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, generous movement and posture, all supporting the development of increased happiness in any life circumstance.

 

Monica Voss has practised and taught yoga for over 40 years, having studied with Esther Myers, Vanda Scaravelli and Mary Stewart. She co-owns and directs Esther Myers Yoga Studio in Toronto, Canada, and teaches workshops, retreats and teacher training internationally. Monica has offered annual workshops in the UK since 1989.

Sounding and Language with Monica Voss, Wednesday 7 June 2017

Teachers, those in training and experienced, interested students are welcome to join Monica for this event which will comprise of 2 short (2hrs each) workshops. 

SOUNDING
Making sounds, whether deliberate or spontaneous, is a strategy of the
body/brain/mind uses to release stress and restore energy by breathing. In this workshop, we will practice a variety of structured, non-sectarian and unstructured natural sound-making to rediscover the voice as a tool for relaxation,empowerment and self-expression.

REFRESHING YOUR LANGUAGE

Words are powerful, stimulating and evocative, but can also limit and frustrate at times. As teachers, we affect our students' practice profoundly by our choice of vocabulary. This workshop will help develop your ability to use language creatively to encourage positive reflection and enhance the very personal process of learning about the body

Introduction to Yoga, 13 June 2017

Our one off introductory sessions are offered approximately once a month and are specifically designed with the new student in mind. 

If you are interested in trying yoga but don't really know what it's all about, this is the session for you.

As we do not offer specific 'beginners' classes, we ask all students new to yoga, to attend an Introduction to Yoga session initially. The teacher will then signpost you to the regular class which is most appropriate to you.

Join us for an informative session which will cover some of the basics and fundamentals of yoga. Watch, join in and ask questions. Perfect for beginners to yoga or those returning to yoga after a long break.

Beyond Anatomy with Peter Blackaby, 24th and 25 June 2017

The study of anatomy is a significant part of our yoga practice and teaching, However it is important to realise that we don’t end at the physical borders of our skin. How we know and interact with the world goes well beyond our physical boundaries, we change and are constantly changed by our encounters with the material world. How we respond and how we notice how we respond to the world goes a long way to shaping our physical and emotional stances in life.

This workshop will explore these themes through practice and discussion.

Attuning our Maya Kosha through Yoga Practice. Week 1. Summer Programme. 24 - 28 July 2017

Join Carolyn for week one of the summer programme. This week will be suitable for students with interest in the integration of philosophy within practice, teachers and student teachers.

Asana practice is strong and reflects experience but can be modified.

Attuning our Maya Kosha through Yoga practice

Traditional theories of ‘layers’ of consciousness are intriguing and offer us a backdrop for our application of practice. They allow us to explore something from a number of angles and find a point of reference that we can make sense of.

As we develop daily practice of Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha and Meditation, Carolyn will bring about opportunities to experience whatever arrives in our psyche.

Asana will build around our individual needs and strengths and may hold challenge for all.

Pranayama will connect to steady, consistent periods of practice to develop our connection to Prana Maya Kosha.

Meditation will connect us to the mental layers of the Kosha and possibly help us to become aware of something not yet seen.

Carolyn has a love for taking the ancient theories and making them sit comfortably in the modern world – this week’s practice and discussions will create time for introspection.

Bringing Joy to Yoga Practice. Week 2. Summer Programme. 31st July - 4th August 2017

Join Carolyn for Week 2 of the Summer Programme.

This week will be suitable for students who like to consider philosophy. Mixed agility and all are welcome. Asana practice will be varied and may be modified to suit your needs.

Bringing Joy to Yoga

It’s this time of the year again where  everyone who attends Jasmine gets the chance to play with Yoga – to practice things they might not get in their ordinary weekly classes, to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie, and to make resolves about maintaining yoga practice to help with those stressful times in life.

We will take time out for ourselves, coming to the mat to explore posture and try something new.

We will find practices that are energising and balancing as well as calming – funny how yoga can do that all at once!

Deepening our connection to restful practices – relaxations, meditations - bringing our minds to the breath and the part it can play in a ‘steady mind’.

Carolyn will – as ever - add the fascination of the philosophy from ancient roots which underpin Yoga.

And all this in the splendour of Babworth – close to nature and far from madding crowds.
